Ahmed Alaoui

I'm Ahmed Alaoui, based in Marrakesh, Morocco. I came to Debian in mid-2026 after discovering how much foundational infrastructure, libraries, XML/SGML documentation tooling, hardware utilities, sits orphaned or under-maintained despite being depended on by huge numbers of systems. That gap, between how critical these packages are and how little attention some of them get, is what pulled me in.

Since starting, I've adopted and actively maintain packages across the RDF/semantic-web stack (raptor2, rasqal, redland, redland-bindings) and XML/SGML documentation infrastructure (docbook-xml), alongside hardware-related tooling (wireless-tools). I also currently hold ITAs on sgml-base, docbook, docbook5-xml, and xml-core, and am working through their adoption.

My work has ranged from routine packaging modernization (DEP-3/DEP-5 compliance, hardening flags, Standards-Version bumps) to diagnosing and fixing real reported bugs, including a release-critical dependency issue in wireless-tools (libiw30t64's Conflicts/Replaces against libiw30) that I reproduced in an isolated container, fixed, and verified before it reached users more broadly.

My primary interest is in the unglamorous but essential layer of the archive: infrastructure and documentation-tooling packages that most users never think about directly, but that everything else quietly depends on. I want to keep that layer solid, responsive to real bug reports, and properly maintained rather than left to bitrot.
