I've been interested in computers all my life, and FOSS is most compatible with my ethical values as well as my practical considerations. Debian has for a long time been my OS of choice, particularly because of its organizational structure, quality packaging, and reliability. I have not given much back to FOSS in my life, but I now find myself maintaining a few Debian packages related to my field of work (mathematics). Taking this a step further could be a good way to give a little bit back while doing work I'd be doing anyway.
