For nm.debian.org, at 2024-06-28:
I support Philip Wyett <philip.wyett@kathenas.org>'s request to become a Debian Developer, uploading.
I have worked with Philip Wyett on as he has helped people prepare packages submitted to mentors.debian.net
over the past couple of months and I consider them as having sufficient technical competence.
In the past, I have often observed that people submit packages to mentors.debian.net without receiving
any feedback or assistance. Several months ago I noticed that Philip was making a determined effort
to respond to each submission with feedback and pointers to get the package into proper shape for
inclusion in Debian. I found his feedback to be helpful and technically accurate, and I also found
his approach to be respectful and encouraging, something that is particularly important when working
with someone who is new to Debian packaging and sometimes overwhelmed or intimidated by the process.
Once Philip felt the package was ready for inclusion in Debian he would indicate that with a post to
the mentors mailing list requesting that a DD look at sponsoring it. I found this helpful because it
allowed me to get involved when the package had already gone through a review, requiring less of my time.
I am encouraged that Philip has been willing to spend time on a critical task in Debian that hasn't received
sufficient attention in the past. I think he will be of even more assistance on mentors.debian.net when
he has full upload rights himself.
I have personally worked with Philip Wyett <philip.wyett@kathenas.org>
(key 70A0AC45AC779EFE84F63AED724AA9B52F024C8B) for the last two months, and I know Philip Wyett
can be trusted to be a full member of Debian, and have unsupervised, unrestricted upload rights, right now.
