I support Mate Kukri <km@mkukri.xyz>'s request to become a Debian Maintainer.
I have worked with Mate Kukri on boot stuff for over 2 years and I consider them as having sufficient technical competence.

Mate and I are working at Canonical. As the primary part of his work, Mate maintains grub for Ubuntu and Debian, and has been an Ubuntu Core Developer since March 2025.

Mate has been the leading grub maintainer for a bit more than 2 years, taking this over from a short stint in my hands. The grub packaging is extraordinarily complicated and Mate has managed to pick that up and fix bugs and significantly rework parts of it.

I have personally worked with Mate Kukri <km@mkukri.xyz>
(key 844F395E47DAB2E2900AFEA77063490E7DB77482) for more than 2 years, and I know Mate Kukri
can be trusted to have upload rights for their own packages, right now.

Declaration of conflicts of interest: At the time of writing, I am Mate's manager.
