-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 For nm.debian.org, at 2026-07-24: I support Aryan Karamtoth 's request to become a Debian Developer, uploading. I have worked with Aryan Karamtoth, whose Salsa username is `spaciouskarter78`, for several months across a range of Debian packages and teams and I consider them as having sufficient technical competence. I have reviewed and sponsored his work, including the initial uploads of several packages listed below. This has given me the opportunity to assess his work on Python packages, desktop applications, new packages and ongoing package maintenance. Aryan knows when to ask for advice or clarification and he takes my suggestions on board even when I leave something for him to research independently. He consistently produces technically sound packaging work and is able to investigate build, test and dependency failures rather than simply working around any immediate symptoms. For example, our work on `python-magika` involved understanding the interaction between the package's supported Python versions and the availability of `onnxruntime`, as well as removing obsolete test overrides from `debian/rules`. When preparing `bulky` for its initial upload, Aryan handled the requirements associated with introducing a new package to Debian, including repacking the upstream sources, documenting copyright and licensing information and preparing the package for review. Across the packages we have worked on, he has demonstrated a good understanding of Debian Policy, team practices, changelog conventions, copyright and licensing requirements and the procedures surrounding package preparation and upload. Aryan responds constructively to review comments and applies feedback carefully. More importantly he understands the reasoning behind the requested changes and carries the learning into further work. Over the time we have worked together, the amount of guidance he requires has reduced and I have become confident in his ability to investigate problems and make sensible technical decisions independently. His most recent packages have required few or no changes before upload. I have seen a genuine improvement in his technical ability and packaging judgement and I would now be comfortable uploading his packages to the NEW queue after only a light review. Aryan is also a good collaborator: he communicates clearly, is receptive to suggestions and knows when to ask for assistance. At the same time he makes a genuine effort to research issues himself before seeking help. He treats review as a collaborative process and has consistently been reliable and pleasant to work with. I have also seen evidence that he takes responsibility for the continued health of his packages. On one occasion, I contacted him because one of his packages was at risk of being removed from testing. He told me that he checks the relevant testing removal information daily and demonstrated this by promptly preparing and making an upload (using the DM permissions I had granted him) which addressed the issue before the package was removed. As Aryan gains further experience, I would encourage him to broaden his work with other Debian contributors and gain more exposure to stable updates, backports and complex bug resolution. I have so far seen less of his work in these areas than in new-package preparation and routine maintenance, but I have no reason to doubt that he is capable of handling them responsibly. His work on the `play.it` backport already provides some relevant experience. He demonstrates the technical competence, judgement, communication skills and sense of responsibility expected of a Debian Developer. I believe that granting him unrestricted upload rights is the natural next step and would allow him to contribute more effectively across the packages and teams in which he is already active.
