I live in Melbourne, Australia. I’m a journalist by trade, but I enjoy working with data, writing code and solving problems with open-source software.
Many years ago, I started with Red Hat, then switched to Ubuntu. I stuck with Ubuntu until GNOME revamped its UI to the extent that I found it totally inconvenient. So, I tried Debian, starting with Cinnamon – and I loved it. Since then, I’ve never looked back.
When I first began participating in Debian (with libexif, if I remember correctly) in 2017, I was focused on resolving multi-arch bugs for Wine. At the time, I was aware there were DMs and DDs, but I never thought I’d actually maintain any packages.
Since then, I’ve become more and more involved with Debian, working collaboratively on packages, adopting some (FreeType, libexif, unixODBC), giving advice on d-mentors, fixing bugs and, most importantly, getting to know and understand Debian and its community. To make a long story short – I really like what I’ve seen and who I’ve worked with, which is why I want to take on more responsibility in the project.
Coding and fixing bugs are my current interests, as are image and font rendering.
I’ve recently found out that I’m one of a small number of known Debian developers in Australia, so one of my goals is to build Debian’s profile here at home.
