For nm.debian.org, at 2022-09-10:
I would like to apply to change my status in Debian to Debian Developer, uploading.
I've been using Linux since 1999, wanting to recover control over my computer.
I started with Redhat 5.2; tried out SuSE.
In 2002 I built my first own computer,
but didn't had internet access for one year more.
Debian was the distro-of-the-month at the wallpaper stand[1],
it was pure luck, but with time I realised it was the perfect match for me;
because of it's completeness and the way everything
is ensured to work well offline.
And this part was not luck, it happens because of the
SC, DFSG and Policy, and the perseverance
of fellow Debian Developer.
I've been tracking testing with some package pinned from unstable ever since,
going through latin1->utf8, i386->amd64 crossgrading and other transitions.
I had much _fun_ automating a lot of stuff for myself,
but it's only much later I got confident in sharing with community.
I started with some python2->3 transition work for Debian native packages.
I then got deeply interrested about the systemd debates,
I really felt that Debian needed help at this time.
- - From this came out systemd-cron, which was made _for_ Debian,
being the aggregation of two former upstream projects.
The way "<pkg>.timer" inhibits "/etc/cron.d/<pkg>" is
a de-facto heuristic that could be integrated someday in
the Policy for example. [so the end-goal of systemd-cron
is to actually do nothing :-) ]
I also had a huge interrest in games and learning Python,
so I did a lot of work on game-data-packager;
where I learned a lot. I find that the Games Team
is also relaxed and welcoming place to work with.
These days my interrest is shifting to Lua, as a dependency of many games.
I also use it at work to write a WireShark dissector for CANBUS data
that I'd like to see liberated.
I've been busy the last year building a Debian-derivative at work;
we'll start the rollout soon. That also included a lot of coaching
about the Debian philosophy.
I feel that now is the perfect time for me to step up as a proper
Debian Developer, I have finally more free time to do it
in a more dedicated and enjoyable way.
I would also help to salvage random packages that needs help
before the release, something that is practicaly hard to do as a DM.
I did _not_ read how other applied to see which
is the "perfect" way, I just did it my way :-)
