I hereby advocate Ferenc Wágner <wferi@niif.hu> to become Debian Developer,
uploading.
Feri has been a long-time contributor to the high availability (HA) packages in
Debian. Browsing the BTS, his first bug reports date from years ago.
The original HA team was seriously understaffed over the last years, leading to
the situation where Jessie was released without pacemaker, rendering the stack
of HA packages in this release mostly useless.
When I joined the "new" HA team to help fixing the mess in early 2015, Feri was
already working on preparing updates. Over several months, we jointly worked on
uploading new versions of the dozen inter-dependant source packages in the
stack, replacing the very outdated unstable versions. Feri was taking care of
corosync and pacemaker, two very complex packages that consist of about 20
binary packages each. He was handling the necessary library transitions,
including creating historically accurate symbols files, created a good number
of patches that were all accepted upstream, and polished up the dusty
packaging. I was working on libqb at that time, and Feri provided very useful
comments on the handling of architecture-specific tweaks. It was him who taught
me how architecture-specific symbols files work.
The HA stack reached beta state in early 2016, when we prepared the first round
of backports to fill the gaps in Jessie. Since then, we have been continuing to
work on fixing more problems. Feri became DM, and is continually uploading new
versions of corosync, pacemaker, and other HA packages.
In the few cases where I had comments on the packages Feri had prepared, it was
more often Feri who was actually right in the reading of technical problems and
the Debian policy. In summary, Feri is pleasant to work with. I fully support
his application to become Debian Developer, uploading.
Thanks,
Christoph

For nm.debian.org, at 2016-06-28:
I support Ferenc Wágner <wferi@niif.hu>'s request to become Debian
Developer, uploading. He has taken over maintenance of the Shibboleth
packages after I stopped using them for my day job and has done an
excellent job in both improving the packaging and interacting with
upstream. I was particularly impressed with his modernization of the
packaging and adoption of new tools and techniques. I'm always happy to
see more Debian Developers who like to dive in and improve packaging style
and maintainability!
I've reviewed his work for a while to sponsor uploads and then previously
added him to the upload ACL as a Debian Maintainer. I'm happy to see him
apply to be a Debian Developer and think his technical work easily meets
that bar.
