I support Douglas Andrew Torrance <dtorrance@piedmont.edu>'s request to become a Debian Developer, uploading.
I have worked with Douglas Andrew Torrance on several packages in R and science teams
Doug is already doing a lot of work on several packages, and all the packages I have reviewed for him have
been of very high quality. On most occasions, I would upload his packages as-is, or with very minor reviews.
The kind of packages Doug maintains, are also, admittedly not easy to maintain - for instance macaulay2, linbox,
qepcad, phcpack (latter two in NEW at the time of advocacy) etc and often involve a wide variety
of languages and build systems, becoming harder to package, however Doug has been able to maintain these very well.
Not only that, he also does upstream work for some of these packages, making the upstream ecosystem better as well.
I have also seen Doug fixing bugs quite regularly, and quickly, and asking for help whenever he is not
sure and/or stuck (something we expect from all contributors :))
He also incorporates any reviews that I leave, and is friendly and constructive.
Doug also has quite some history of contributions, with his first upload dating back to September, 2013 which
is more than nine years ago!
With the solid technical competence that Doug has, coupled with working in a contructive way and fixing things
quickly that Doug has demonstrated for many months, I have no doubt that Doug should be a DD now, and that he
would be an amazing addition to the project.
I have personally worked with Douglas Andrew Torrance <dtorrance@piedmont.edu>
(key 803CE41F4DC252ECB5E5F1B9D12B2BE26D3FF663) for many months, and I know Douglas Andrew Torrance
can be trusted to be a full member of Debian, and have unsupervised, unrestricted upload rights, right now.
