This page collects statements of advocacy for
Julien Puydt <julien.puydt@gmail.com>
to become a Debian Maintainer.
You must be logged in to submit a statement of advocacy. See the
Single Sign-On page
for details and https://sso.debian.org/
to obtain a suitable client certificate.
See here
for details about advocating someone to be a Debian Maintainer. You should be familiar with their
existing work within Debian and believe it to be of a sufficient standard that they can be
trusted with upload rights to the packages they maintain.
Please be verbose if you can. You may want to write the advocacy in a
proper text editor and paste it in the form when you are happy with it.
Note: An email with your advocacy message will be sent to the
debian-newmaint
public mailing list.

I support Julien Puydt <julien.puydt@laposte.net>'s
request to become Debian Maintainer.
I have personally worked with Julien Puydt
<julien.puydt@laposte.net> (key 812EEFD8A3FBA4ACE4DF114B04C53BD7FE030551)
for more than one year now, and I know Julien Puydt can be trusted
to have upload rights for their own packages, right now.
I sponsored a total of 98 packages for him and 63 of them uploads
were new packages.
I admit, he maintains many nodejs packages, they are trivial to package,
to review, and they usually don't contain many copyright issues,
but I also sponsored a lot of work outside the pkg-js team,
and I see him in many teams in Debian.
I really trust him and his work, I don't think I had to nitpick on his work
in the last few uploads, and I would like to see his DD application in the
near future, because he is really committed to Debian, and his contributions
are a big, and valuable effort for us.
He currently maintains 87 packages in main, he successfully did some
transitions, and helped with patches, he never underestimate the work,
and knows when to upload on experimental and when to upload on unstable.
I don't see any reason for him not being a DD (hint: I would advocate you :) )
thanks for your work so far, finally I can stop signing your stuff ;)
(this application has been stalled because of missing signatures for his key,
I'm happy he found a DD to sign it)

I support Julien Puydt <julien.puydt@laposte.net>'s request to become Debian Maintainer.
I have worked with Julien Puydt on *a lot* of packages (92 uploads for 48
distinct source packages if my UDD query is correct, plus there are more that I
reviewed but somebody else uploaded), for a year, and I recall nothing that
would have been really a blocker for anything; if there is anything, it's just
me looking out for spurious trailing whitespaces :)
In this time I sponsored everything from very trivial javascript/nodejs modules,
to medium-sized Python packages and also some not-so-trivial packages (from the
Science and Python teams).
I know I came to trust Julien Puydt <julien.puydt@laposte.net>
(key 812EEFD8A3FBA4ACE4DF114B04C53BD7FE030551) and his work, and I know Julien

If he wishes to amend this application to request to become a
Debian Developer instead, I would also support that!
I know Julien through working on the SageMath packaging team. This is a project
that has spanned many years, which I joined recently, and we have been making
renewed efforts to try to get it into Debian stretch. Julien did a lot of the
foundational work for it, and continues to be a critical part of the effort
today. It has over 160 dependencies, and Julien was the original builder of
much of the infrastructure that we're using to manage all of these. We also
have to package many of them as well; Julien is familiar with the details of
much of these, including the core dependency packages, and has helped us to
solve many debugging issues. I've also sponsored and reviewed many of his
packages in this area, and cannot remember anything missing or unclean that I
had to spend time fixing.
Furthermore, Julien is communicative and responsive - when I first joined the
SageMath team and was just learning about it, he helped me understand a lot of
the major issues, upstream's development practises, and the remaining Debian
work. Thank you!
